D'oh! To paraphrase the book authors and composer, the show is NOT a parody and no parodic elements were placed anywhere in the written work. The real-life Bat Boy himself stated in an interview with Dramatists Play Service's Robert Vaughn, "The tunes, the lyrics and the story are all original, and if anyone disagrees, I shall be happy to debate them, refute them, saw through their rib cage with my incisors and extract their juicy spleen." What's more... he meant it.
